The “Gender in a BOX” project was a transnational initiative involving 9 partner countries, bringing together a strong consortium with well-balanced skills and experience. The project approached gender issues in an innovative way by focusing on educating and actively engaging young boys and men, aiming to promote gender equality and equity. It consisted of five main actions, combining local capacity-building activities and mobility actions.
The main aim of the project was to strengthen the capacity of youth organizations to promote gender equality by working with young boys and men, recognizing them not only as part of the problem but as key actors of change. At the same time, the project equipped participants with practical tools and methods that could be applied at the local level to better include boys and men in gender equality work through youth activities.
Within the project, youth workers, leaders, and young people were trained in approaches to working with boys and men in gender-related contexts, while their skills were enhanced through practical and professional methods. The project contributed to the empowerment of young men by supporting them in developing life skills and healthy relationships based on equality, understanding their physical, sexual, and emotional development, and addressing different forms of violence in their daily lives. In addition, a team of young trainers specialized in gender equality was created, acting as multipliers of the project’s results.
The methodology of the project was based on non-formal education (NFE), a learning-by-doing approach, and learner-centered methods. All activities were carefully designed and implemented through strong cooperation among partners, with the support of experienced professionals, trainers, facilitators, and project managers in the fields of education, gender issues, and inclusion.
