Help the Homeless
The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange ‘Help the Homeless’ took place from 5 – 13 th October 2019 in Birmingham, UK. The project consisted of 42 participants from the UK, Greece, Slovakia, Poland, Portugal, Bulgaria and Lithuania.
‘Help the Homeless’ used methods of non-formal education to discuss the topic of homelessness, followed by developing solutions to the issue. The following objectives were laid out to ensure that participants gained a thorough understanding of the topic:
Project aims and objectives:
- To fully understand what homelessness is and the various causes of homelessness;
- To identify the consequences of homelessness for individuals, the local community, national governments and on an international scale;
- To analyse existing homelessness strategies which aim to assist with and combat homelessness;
- To develop ideas around how participants could take action to combat homelessness both during and after the exchange;
- To promote and support intercultural understanding and acceptance between participants, allowing them to pass this skill on beyond the youth exchange.
The project was a great success, with participants being actively engaged throughout. We also had a day trip to London, which everyone enjoyed as they could learn more about British culture and history.
