It was my first contact with the Erasmus + program and this journey could not have started better.
The program took place in Madrid and it was focused on the environment, sustainability and climate change. We started the with getting to know each other games and energisers and the presentation of each country on how it’ s sustainable and what measures it takes to achieve it. Afterwards, we had the opportunity to meet other youth workers of the organization, who talked about small steps we can take ourselves to be sustainable. A short workshop followed, in which the volunteers had to use recyclable materials to make an outfit and jewelry for me. The second day of the program, we also did the treasure hunt, so we had the opportunity to see the most central and important spots of the city. We were also lucky enough to do a workshop that helped us understand how climate change has affected our lives. Finally, we walked through Madrid's largest green park, Retiro, where we interviewed passers-by to tell us how they themselves try to be sustainable.
Personally, but also as a group, we had the opportunity to get to know many countries and cultures. We learned quite a lot about each other and built up really good relationships in just a week. In order to have a more complete picture, every night two countries prepared dinner for us, so that we could try their local cuisine, as well as snacks from their countries. We, in particular, cooked together with Italy and it was a pleasant and creative process.
The coordinators were very friendly and cooperative. There was good cooperation with the other organizations as well. I can say that I have been pleased, for a first experience, and I would definitely do it again. Unfortunately, the days went by without realizing it, but it's never too late for the next youth exchange!
