The “Gender in a BOX” project was a transnational initiative involving 9 partner countries, bringing together a strong consortium with complementary skills and experience. The project adopted an innovative approach to gender issues by focusing on the education and active engagement of young boys and men, aiming to promote gender equality and equity. It consisted of five main actions combining local capacity-building activities and international mobility opportunities.

The main aim of the project was to strengthen the capacity of youth organizations to promote gender equality by working with young boys and men, recognizing them as key agents of change. At the same time, the project equipped youth workers, leaders, and young people with practical tools and methods to include more boys and men in gender equality initiatives at the local level. This process enhanced participants’ professional skills and their ability to address gender-related issues from multiple perspectives.

The project contributed to addressing challenges faced by young men during adolescence, focusing on masculinity and identity, while promoting life skills and the development of healthy relationships based on equality. It also enhanced understanding of physical, sexual, and emotional development, as well as the prevention and response to different forms of violence in everyday life. A key outcome of the project was the creation of a group of young trainers specialized in gender equality, who acted as multipliers of the project’s results.

The project methodology was based on non-formal education (NFE), a learning-by-doing approach, and learner-centered methods. All activities were carefully designed and implemented through strong cooperation among partners, supported by experienced professionals, trainers, facilitators, and project managers in the fields of education, gender issues, and inclusion.

The U.S.B. carry out educational, social, and volunteer mobility and youth-empowerment programs. Their goals are social inclusion, the creation and support of a network of active citizens, and improving their quality of life.
