The “Human Library: The Rest is History” project was an educational initiative that aimed to provide experiential knowledge about historical events and tragedies linked to totalitarianism. Through firsthand testimonies and stories shared by witnesses and their relatives, the project highlighted the importance of memory and historical awareness in fostering active participation in shared European values.
The project was implemented through non-formal education, specifically using the “Human Library” methodology—an innovative approach that promotes dialogue through “living books,” where individuals share their personal experiences. This method encouraged interactive learning and created meaningful connections with historical realities.
The activities focused on experience sharing, empathy-building, and the promotion of intercultural dialogue. Participants engaged with sensitive historical topics through human stories, enhancing critical thinking and social awareness.
The “Human Library” method has been recognized by the European Commission and the Council of Europe as a best practice in the fields of human rights and intercultural dialogue. The project contributed significantly to the dissemination of these values, empowering participants to become active and informed citizens.
