Break the Glass Testimonies: Tania

My name is Tania, and I'm from Tallinn, Estonia. I'm a curious and friendly person who enjoys writing, drawing, and joking around. With a background in anthropology and experience in youth work and translation, I’ve always been drawn to creative and meaningful projects. Currently, I'm participating in the ESC program at MediaLab Balkan Hotspot in Thessaloniki, Greece.
My main tasks include writing articles, editing, proofreading, and organizing events. I joined this project because I’m passionate about writing and journalism, and I wanted to challenge myself by taking on more leadership roles, especially in event planning. In the past, I often compared myself to others and struggled with confidence, particularly as a woman, but here I’ve truly felt seen and heard.
During my ESC, I’ve been connecting with amazing people, tapping into my creativity, and expressing my authentic self. It has given me a huge boost in both hard and soft skills. One of the most valuable things I’ve learned is that I’m capable of much more than I gave myself credit for—I now trust myself more than ever. I also believe that ESC programs support female empowerment. I’ve always felt safe and respected within my organization, and I can't even imagine being treated differently here.
If I could change one thing, I would love to have had more technical workshops and opportunities to meet ESC volunteers from other cities. Would I do it again? Absolutely, without hesitation.

The U.S.B. carry out educational, social, and volunteer mobility and youth-empowerment programs. Their goals are social inclusion, the creation and support of a network of active citizens, and improving their quality of life.
