When Scars (!) Become Art - Policy Recommendations Greece

We are pleased to publish the Greek Policy Recommendations developed within the framework of the Erasmus+ project When Scars (!) Become Art.

Building on the findings of the Greek National Research, this document outlines a holistic and intersectional roadmap for strengthening social inclusion and mental well-being among young Roma, migrant, and refugee populations in Greece.

The recommendations emphasize the urgent need to move beyond fragmented or symbolic measures and adopt structural reforms that address housing, access to mental health services, education, legal status, anti-discrimination frameworks, and youth support systems. Particular attention is given to recognizing antigypsyism as a systemic form of discrimination, ensuring culturally and linguistically appropriate services, guaranteeing access to mental health care regardless of documentation status, and developing inclusive educational and community-based structures.

The document calls for coordinated national strategies that connect housing, health, education, and legal protection in a comprehensive inclusion plan. It underlines that mental well-being cannot be addressed in isolation from poverty, institutional exclusion, geographical isolation, and structural racism.

These Policy Recommendations reflect the voices of young people and youth workers and contribute to shaping evidence-based, rights-focused public policies that promote dignity, belonging, and equal participation.

Through this publication, When Scars (!) Become Art continues to bridge research, advocacy, and youth work, transforming lived experiences into concrete policy pathways for systemic change.

The U.S.B. carry out educational, social, and volunteer mobility and youth-empowerment programs. Their goals are social inclusion, the creation and support of a network of active citizens, and improving their quality of life.
